Congratulations to our OSCARS winners

We are delighted to have held our inaugural Partnership Outstanding Service Contribution And Recognition Scheme (O.S.C.A.R.S) Staff Awards, with nominations opening on Tuesday 25 April 2023, and the awards ceremony on Friday 30 June 2023.

The awards were a fantastic opportunity for us all to recognise the amazing work that has been taking place across our Partnership.

Our host for the awards ceremony was Gail Porter, the TV presenter and a keen advocate for improved mental health care and support,  and the event was held at the fantastic Connaught Rooms in Central London, where we had a sit-down dinner and entertainment by the north London band, the Silencerz.

The award categories were: Living our shared values, Ensuring equity of outcome for all, Providing consistently high-quality care, Creating a great place to work, Pioneering research, Quality Improvement and Technology, Team of the Year, Manager / Leader of the Year, Apprentice of the Year and Service User-nominated GEM – Go the Extra Mile Award.

All the Awards were only open to nominations for individuals, apart from the Team of the Year Award.

Alan Underwood Alan Underwood - Providing Consistently High Quality Care Award

This award is about making a high-impact change in the individual’s area or leading research that has resulted in a real difference to the clinical or therapeutic care we offer.

The judging panel recognised the brilliant impact Alan has had on their team as their leader, developing a unit of high excellence, as well as being an international subject matter expert.

Alan was not able to attend the awards ceremony so Jinjer presented him with it earlier.

Denisha Palmer Denisha Palmer- Creating a Great Place to Work Award

Creating a great place to work is so important and has an invaluable impact on the care we provide.  This award is for an individual who makes their work environment a happy, healthy and safe place and who engages their colleagues in order to make this happen.

The judging panel for this award was impressed with Denisha devotion to their management role, developing and encouraging their team, all while working under pressure to ensure a therapeutic, safe environment.

Dr Filipa Alves-Da-Costa Dr Filipa Alves-Da-Costa - Pioneering Research, Quality Improvement and Technology Award

Pioneering research, Quality Improvement and Technology is about making a real difference to the care we deliver through the successful use of a Quality Improvement project, new technology or research. Our partnership is renowned for the research it produces and for the strength of its Information Technology and Quality Improvement teams.

Dr Filipa Alves-Da-Costa impressed the panel with their dedication to the research agenda over the last two years in addition to their core clinical role as a psychologist. They work tirelessly to motivate and support research across the service, with innovative QI ideas and projects as well as national publications.

Filipa was not able to attend the ceremony so was presented with her award earlier.

Glory Ayo Glory Ayo - Apprentice of the Year Award

Our apprentices are so important; investing in their futures pays dividends in so many ways for us as a partnership and for the people we look after. So, this award is particularly important as we recognise their ideas, hard work and the positive impact they have in their roles.

The judging panel recognised this person’s level of support and commitment in encouraging members of their team to start apprenticeships, all while remaining incredibly dedicated to their apprenticeship.

Friends of Natalie collected her award Natalie O'Hana - GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Award

The service user nominated GEM – going the extra mile, is a particularly special award category as it’s recognition from the people we are here to serve – our service users.  There can be no greater compliment than being singled out for praise by the group of people who are our very reason for being here.

The panel was very impressed with how Natalie demonstrates compassion and empathy in their approach to service users, showing great flexibility in their delivery of care and thus clearly demonstrating that they go the extra mile every day!

Natalie was not able to attend on the night so her award was presented to Kitty and Joy, pictured.

Tanya Davis -  Manager/Leader of the Year Award  Tanya Davis -  Manager/Leader of the Year Award

Being a good leader depends on so many things – being a good listener, being a role-model and knowing both how to support and to empower.  A good leader notices others’ efforts and thanks them; they try to find ways to improve, learn and grow; and they use compassionate leadership, coaching or mentoring to get the best out of their teams, as well as embracing diversity and difference.

The panel were incredibly impressed by Tanya's leadership, embracing their role in the development of others. They have worked incredibly hard to promote the work and importance the Partnership’s Allied Health Professionals, promoting all backgrounds and cultures.

Tanya was not able to attend the ceremony so was presented with her award earlier by Steve Cook, Managing Director, Specialist Services.

Haringey West Core Team Haringey West Core Team - Team of the Year Award

Team of the Year is about striving for excellence for service users, empowering colleagues to make a positive difference and innovating and collaborating in providing the very best services. As you can imagine, we were not short of nominations for highly-deserving candidates

This was an incredibly difficult award for the panel to judge. The Haringey West Core Community Team continuously and consistently live the Trust values with colleagues and service-users alike, supporting each other through challenges all whilst celebrating their triumphs.

Aziz Fuat Aziz Fuat - Unsung Hero Award

This is a category about recognising the contribution of someone who plays an exceptional role delivering care to our service-users, but in a quiet way that does not attract attention or praise but is hugely valuable in its own way.

Aziz works in one of the most challenging areas of our Partnership, and his care and attention to the physical and mental wellbeing of the scores of young people he looks after on a daily basis has a huge and long-term impact.

Aziz willingly takes on great responsibility and is often the first member of staff to engage with the young people who come to us, often in crisis and highly distressed. He does this, calmly, with care and understanding. He builds therapeutic relationships with the many youngsters with whom he interacts, working alongside the Occupational Therapy team to help run keep-fit classes, and outdoor gym and basketball sessions as part of their recovery plan.

Aziz colleagues describe how our young people are able to talk to him about how they are feeling or if they have plans to self-harm – achieving that level of trust is by no means easy and takes a very special person.

Aziz always leads by example and this perception of him is shared by the young people on the ward, with whom he builds lasting and trusting rapport. His colleagues describe how he gives 100% at all times and are willing to step up and help others manage the pressures they are facing. In short, they say ‘you are an absolute delight to work with and so deserving of this award’! Many, many congratulations Aziz!

Congratulations to all our winners and a very well done to everyone who was nominated or highly commended!

A huge thank you to the Staff Awards planning group for all their hard work in the lead up to the event, and thank you to everyone who attended. We hope you enjoyed the night as much as we did - we are looking forward to doing it all again next year!
