Marking London Poppy Day

One of our Partnership Experts-by-Experience, Anthony Muckell, took part this year in London Poppy Day which is run by The Royal British Legion.

Anthony, who was supported by our Veterans’ Service, and now works with the service as an EbyE, was interviewed by several media outlets, including BBC London, LBC, British Forces TV, at the launch at Westminster Station.

London Poppy Day was launched by the actor Ross Kemp, and attended by special guests including Johnny Mercer MP, a veteran who is the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs. Events were held at different locations across London to mark the day, on 2 November, when members of the Armed Forces, veterans and volunteers collect donations and sell poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Anthony said: “I was pleased to be invited to be an ambassador for the Royal British Legion having been one of their beneficiaries. London Poppy Day is the largest single day street collection in Europe and aimed to raise £1million in one day. I met really interesting people including Johnny Mercer, Ross Kemp and an 11-year-old girl who turns her street name into Poppy Street each year to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.  “It also really lifted my spirits and snapped me out of a massive dip in mood.”

The Royal British Legion is the country’s largest Armed Forces charity, with 180,000 members, 110,000 volunteers and a network of partners. It offers support to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families, providing advice, guidance, recovery rehabilitation and more.
