Esther Sofela, a Physical Health Nurse Lead in the Haringey Division, has recently been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse (QN).
The award is given to nurses who have shown a high level of commitment to patient care and the nursing profession.
To be considered for the award, a nurse, health visitor or midwife must have been working in community, primary or social care for at least five years.
Esther is now one of two QNs at BEH, along with the Partnership’s Deputy Director of Nursing Helen Mehra, who encourages her nursing colleagues to apply every year.
The Queen’s Nursing Institute vets the applications to determine who is deserving of the award.
Esther, who has been a nurse for 41 years, 18 of which have been at BEH, shared her thoughts on being awarded the QN title:
“I count being a Queen’s Nurse an honour and recognition of my contribution to community nursing in the healthcare delivery system.
“The award means that I need to continue working actively and dynamically in Partnership with all stakeholders in the health sector to help patients, service users and clients function as well as they can, whether in hospital, their home or in the community.
“While doing this, I will continue supporting and liaising with colleagues and multidisciplinary teams where necessary across the primary care settings within North Central London and beyond by taking a strategic approach and always keeping best practices in mind.”
Helen said: “We are delighted to announce that Esther has been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse. Esther has been formally recognised for her experience and skills and commitment to nursing, delivering care to patients over many years to the highest possible standard. “The Partnership is very proud of Esther and her achievement.”
