We are pleased to share that the refurbishments at the Highview Community Rehabilitation Unit in Islington have now finished.
The unit provides 24-hour intensive rehabilitation to up to 15 service users whose stay enables them to develop independent living skills, usually after a period of inpatient care.
Highview was in need of modernisation to provide service users with a living space that fosters recovery.
To bring about this transformation, the Highview team worked closely with the C&I Estates Department and Islington Borough Managers. The goal was to make the unit a more pleasant and welcoming environment.
Service users were also closely involved, participating in choosing colour schemes, soft furnishings and painting a new sign for Highview.
All the refurbishment work was in line with the C&I trauma-informed environment protocol to ensure that Highview is a therapeutic environment in which to receive treatment and to promote recovery.
Feedback from service users, staff and carers has been "hugely positive" according to Dave Fearon who is Head of the Islington Crisis and Intensive Teams.
"Although we had a period of huge disruption [while the transformation was taking place] we all remained positive and excited by the daily progress we made," Dave said.
"We hope that the Partnership will continue to support other services in promoting trauma-informed environments".
