"Topping-out” of Lowther Road, our new community facility

The official “topping-out” of Lowther Road, our new community mental health facility took place in Islington on Wednesday 26 April.

The redevelopment, being built by UK construction company Kier, forms part of C&I’s exciting St Pancras Transformation Programme.

When it completes at the end of 2023, Lowther Road will provide a modern, welcoming space in the heart of the community. This will enable C&I to offer integrated services that address both mental health and physical health.

Importantly, it will also provide an enhanced working environment for our staff. The vision for Lowther Road has been created with input from our staff, service users and the local community.

Speaking at the “topping-out” event Jinjer Kandola MBE, Trust Chief Executive, said: “Lowther Road will create the best possible environment to enable mental health recovery by providing therapeutic spaces for our service users and giving our staff the facilities needed to provide the best possible care. “The purpose-built design will provide a modern workplace for our clinical teams and the building will be future-proofed so that it can be adapted to accommodate a range of different services as needs change.”

Dr Khalid Aziz, Medical Director for Adults of Working Age and Older Adults, reflected on the new facility being a community asset. He said: “Lowther Road will provide space for at least 100 staff and the design includes 30 consultation rooms, as well as meeting room spaces and an information zone. Importantly, this will not be a space exclusively for our staff and service users, a community café will make this somewhere which everyone can use and enjoy.”

John Bolton, Regional Director for Kier Construction London & Southern said: “We are proud to partner with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust to deliver these important new facilities at Lowther Road. When complete, it will provide a purpose-built space to enable staff to support patients.”
