Becoming a Principal Investigator
You may also be interested in becoming a Principal Investigator (PI) for a particular study. This means overseeing and having local responsibility for a study at the Trust, and working alongside world-leading researchers and academics from institutions including UCL, Kings College London, University of Oxford and many other universities. By agreeing to be a PI, you will receive training from the NIHR as well as Noclor, who oversee R&D at BEH, and both will help you develop your research skills
The Principal Investigator (PI) is the lead researcher for a research project at a particular site (Trust), and have overall responsibility for the conduct of the project at that site. In practice, the PI may delegate specific tasks to members of the research delivery team.
Who is an appropriate BEH PI?
- The PI could be a doctor, nurse or allied health professional; we are always keen to hear from staff who are new to the PI role.
What support is available?
We can match clinicians to relevant research projects, and support with feasibility reviews and planning for study delivery and recruitment
The research delivery team work closely with the PI and clinical team throughout the life of the study, and will ensure that the PI retains full oversight of all research activity.
